Restless Nurse Syndrome
February 15, 2008 - Travel nursing and allied health staffing company Medical Solutions, has announced Dr. James Turbatus as the recipient of their Nurses Who Like Nursing But Don't Like Nursing Where They Nurse Grant. The $50,000 grant was awarded to Dr. Turbatus for his exceptional work in the fight against Restless Nurse Syndrome (RNS), a serious affliction facing nurses across the United States.
In addition to the grant, Medical Solutions and Dr. Turbatus have announced a strategic partnership. In this agreement, Dr. Turbatus will provide training for Medical Solutions Recruiters to become qualified RNS Specialists. In return Medical Solutions will be the sole provider of travel nursing jobs to his patients, a vital component in the treatment of RNS.
"We're extremely proud to partner with and further fund the work of Dr. Turbatus, as he combats this epidemic," said Scott Anderson, President of Medical Solutions.
"I would like to thank Medical Solutions for their generous contribution to my research, which I am very passionate about. I believe it reinforces how important it is that we fight for the well-being of all nurses across the United States," said Dr. James Turbatus.
As the discoverer of Restless Nurse Syndrome (RNS), Dr. Turbatus defines RNS as a psychological condition typified by a strong, compulsive urge to move your nursing career accompanied by twitching and uncomfortable, uneasiness from working in one place or doing the same thing for too long. There are four main strains of RNS, which include: Locationitis, Salarytosis, Jobsession and Nofriendleosis. While the exact cause of RNS is unknown at this time Dr. Turbatus has made important discoveries that have led to its successful treatment.
Since successful treatment of RNS hinges on awareness and early detection, Dr. Turbatus' group has developed the interactive RestlessNurseSyndrome.com website where nurses can learn and diagnose the symptoms and are encouraged to share their own stories. The site also chronicles the doctor's work through a series of case studies while sharing the cure for RNS, the organic based drug Lacidem in conjunction with a travel nursing assignment from Medical Solutions.
Dr. Turbatus hypothesizes that RNS may be related to Jobisitis (JOB - uh - sitis), a condition in which the nurse's current position cuts off the flow of job satisfaction to the brain. The chemical responsible for job satisfaction facilitates communication between the brain and the nerve cells that control body movement. When the job satisfaction system is not working correctly, it can cause an uncontrollable urge for the nurse to move in order to ease the discomfort and boredom in his or her current position.
The successful treatment of RNS relies on Lacidem, an organic based drug with the active ingredient Snoitulos (not yet FDA approved). After a series of clinical trials on lab squirrels, Dr. Turbatus began testing Lacidem on restless nurses. He soon realized that with nurses however, travel nursing jobs from Medical Solutions must also be included in the treatment. After travel nursing was introduced into the treatment of his test subjects their RNS symptoms disappeared.
