Q: I've heard that Medical Solutions has lowered the cost of its medical insurance. How was this possible?
A: In response to Traveler feedback and in an effort to provide you with the best possible experience, Medical Solutions will now be paying significantly more per month toward each of our Travelers' medical insurance premiums. You asked, we listened.
Besides Medical Solutions responding to resounding Traveler feedback and medical insurance needs, there are a couple other factors that led to this change. First, likely due to Traveler dissatisfaction with the rates we've offered in the past, we have historically had very low Traveler participation in our insurance plan. This low participation lead to higher premiums, which continued to cyclically worsen participation — and so the cycle of low participation and higher premiums continued, also leaving many of our Travelers uninsured. With new, lower rates launched in late 2013 participation is already up and we hope that the investment Medical Solutions is making now in our Travelers' medical coverage will eventually lead to organically lower premiums for all Travelers going forward.
Q: Is this cost being absorbed by or deducted from another area of my pay package?
A: Absolutely not! Medical Solutions is giving you hundreds of dollars more towards your medical insurance premiums. Period. This cost will not be coming out of or in any way negatively affecting your compensation.
Q: What is the absolute lowest cost for my premiums?
A: This is dependent upon how many people are covered under your policy. The lowest cost for a basic single policy plan covering an employee only is just $10 per week. In the rate chart below, this would be Plan 3 for Employee Only (EE). However, this weekly price will increase accordingly if you choose another plan and/or if your coverage extends to your spouse and/or children. Here's how the rates break down:
|Plan 1||Plan 2||Plan 3|
Q: Will these rates fluctuate?
A: We want to make this as hassle-free and confusion-free as possible for you, that's why we have implemented a flat rate that will not change during your contract.
The only time these rates may change is upon open enrollment, which occurs annually in April. Unfortunately we can't guarantee that the rates won't fluctuate upon open enrollment but our hope is that the rates may eventually go down due to increased participation. We are happy to say that upon the last open enrollment period the $10 per week rate for a single, basic medical insurance policy was not affected.
Q: What if I am already working on a current contract but I have declined coverage — can I change my mind and take the coverage at any time?
A: Once you decline coverage for a contract and begin work, you must abide by that choice for the remainder of that contract. But, you will be able to make a new insurance election beginning with your next extension or next contract, or if you have a qualifying life event.
Q: What if I have a week off and do not receive a paycheck for that week — when would that week's premium be deducted?
A: If you do not submit a timesheet/receive a check for the week in question — let's call it “Week 1, ” for example — then the premium amount attached to Week 1 will be deducted in the following check/week. So, if there is no check for Week 1, the premium from Week 1 will be deducted from Week 2's check, along with the usual deduction attached to Week 2.
Q: What if I take a week or two off in between assignments — will I be responsible for the premium costs from that time?
A: As a courtesy to you, Medical Solutions will absorb your premium costs for an interim of two weeks or less in between assignments, as long as the following two conditions are met:
- Prior to the end of your current contract with Medical Solutions you have already signed on to your next contract with Medical Solutions.
- The next, or new, contract begins within two weeks or less of the end date of your current contract.
Q: What happens if I am terminated or my contract is cancelled?
A: Effective April 1, 2014, medical insurance coverage ends as of your last day worked. At this point you will receive COBRA information.
Q: Does this plan include dental and vision?
A: No, this is just for medical insurance. Dental and vision policies are offered separately, at affordable rates.
Q: Who can I talk to if I still have questions?
A: Please contact your Career Consultant with any questions regarding your medical insurance premiums. He or she will be happy to help you!
