Clinical Corner: Incident Reporting
by Amber Barna BSN, RN - Clinical Director of Nursing
Incidents happen in healthcare settings, even to the most diligent of healthcare teams. Medical Solutions understands this, and want to ensure we are providing the needed support for you, our travelers. With this, it is a Joint Commission requirement that all incidents which occur (either patient related such as med error, order omission, lab errors and employee related such as strain, body fluid exposures, etc) are reported to Medical Solutions and tracked/trended to ensure we provide the necessary training and support. Incident reports are intended to assist with driving better practices and provide protection for you.
If an incident occurs, first, take care of the immediate situation and follow the hospital's policy. Next, per our handbook, we need to have this information reported to your Medical Solutions Career Consultant within 24 hours of the incident. We, as your employer, want to ensure we have you protected and covered. Medical Solutions would rather you OVER REPORT than not report. We are here to support you, so please let us know how we can help!
