Operating Room Nurse
Traveling nurses in the field of Operating Room Nursing or Perioperative Nursing are Registered Nurses (RNs) who work in hospital surgical departments, day-surgery units (also called ambulatory surgery units), clinics, and physicians' offices. These nurses are responsible for sustaining a sterile setting in the OR, observation of the patient during surgery, and delegating care throughout the surgical process. OR nurses are relied upon dramatically for their professional assessment and critical thinking skills. They also may concentrate on the surgical patient, family members, and other healthcare professionals. These nurses may have additional expertise with CNOR (Certified Nurse-Operating Room) through the Competency and Credentialing Institute.
