Telemetry Nurse
Traveling nurses in the field of Telemetry Nursing provide care by comfortably connecting patients to machines that measure heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing rate, as well as blood-oxygen level and electrocardiogram information. The machines then transmit the results to a remote locale by means of wires, radio waves, or other avenues for these nurses to monitor. Telemetry Nurses must then assess patient health problems and needs, develop and execute nursing care plans, and manage medical records. They usually control treatment to patients in a hospital or clinical environment. Telemetry nurses may direct patients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management. Telemetry nursing is practiced by nurses who have specialized formal, post-secondary education and who function in highly independent and specialized roles. These nurses may have additional expertise with ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PCCN Certification for Progressive Care Nurses through the American Association for Critical Care Nurses (AACN).
