Job Description

Travel L&D RN is needed for a 13 week assignment to start ASAP in a Hospital located in Indiana. The L&D has 7 labor beds, 2 OR, 3 triage. Certifications required are ACLS, BLS, NRP. RN’s are required to circulate. It is a plus if candidate has worked with midwifes before. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:1-2 Depends on at the time and patient situation. Charge RN - Yes - responsible for L&D, 4th floor, and mother/baby. Nurse Aides - scrub techs for vaginal and C-section deliveries. Shifts consist of 7pm-7am for a total of 72 hours guaranteed every 2 weeks and they will also work every 3rd weekend. Candidates need to be flexible with schedules because they are hired at times of greatest need so often will fill in shift holes, schedules typically made 6 weeks in advance, no block scheduling of self-scheduling. Call is required, typically 20-25 hours in a 6 week schedule, split between everyone in unit, no minimum requirement noted. Scrubs are provided by the hospital. Telemetry - Phillips, nurses must be able to read strips and fetal heart monitoring (Phillips as well). Vents - No. Hospitalist or Intensivist in house - Neonatologist available 24/7 but not in house, if needed ER physician available in emergencies, 3 midwifes for unit. IV Team - Yes but only from 9am-5pm. RT 24/7 - Yes. Pharmacy 24/7 - Yes. Floor specific orientation - 1 shift on floor, can adjust if needed, orientation can be done for day or night shift. Common diagnosis / Types of patients - They get a high amount of natural deliveries, not a lot of high risk, if high risk present they will send to nearby facility, also have a high population of opiate exposed deliveries, 30 % deliveries done with midwife, they also have an exceptional success rate with VBAC's (80% rate), 20% population are C-sections. Additional Notes - Candidates need to be skilled and knowledgeable on giving magnesium sulfate for pre-term labor and pre-eclampsia, must be a team player, flexible, adaptable to unit environment, friendly, patient, tolerant of the way they do things, respectful, L&D at this facility is a different type of busy 7-8 deliveries per day. This is one of the most popular states to travel in with lots of things to do and beautiful scenery. This position won't be open long. Great Benefits and Pay!
