San Francisco and Oakland, California

“The City” and “The Town” are neighboring locations with tons of great opportunities for travel nurses. Travel nursing jobs in San Francisco are always in high demand because of the city’s many cultural offerings and historic sites. Shopping, seafood, and art tend to be the real San Francisco treats for many happy travel nurses. Check out the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Chinatown, the Palace of Fine Arts, Twin Peaks, Golden Gate Recreational Area, and Fisherman’s Wharf. And definitely hop a famous Frisco cable car!

Don’t forget to explore travel nursing jobs in Oakland as well. Here you’ll find trendy neighborhoods, an exciting arts scene, and so much more just across the bay. Enjoy the great outdoors at Lake Merritt, Jack London Square, Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park, Morcom Rose Garden, and Temescal Regional Recreation Area. Oakland is also known for its important Black cultural history, so be sure to visit the African American Museum and Library, Oakland Museum, and take a Black History Tour. Oakland is a great jumping off point for a trip to Napa Valley!

In addition to the beautiful Bay Area, California is chock full of inviting travel nurse locations this summer. Travelers are also flocking to Modesto, San Diego, Redding, Monterey, Stockton, Sacramento, and so many other locations in The Golden State!

Tucson, Arizona

Travel nursing jobs in Tucson come with great pay and benefits, plus plenty to do and see. This fun, mid-sized city is known for rich culture and history, bike-friendly roads, and incredible food. In fact, Tucson was named the United States’ first UNESCO City of Gastronomy in 2015. The city’s food traditions date back 4,000 years, originally drawing from Mexican and Native American cultures. From street vendor Sonoran hotdogs to high-end farm-to-table restaurants to sacred seed projects, farmers markets, and more, delicious eats with a side of history are always being served here.

Settled in the Catalina Foothills, Tucson is also a wonderful place to get outside and explore. We recommend trips to Saguaro National Park, Tucson Mountain Park, Mount Lemmon, Mica Mountain, and Coronado National Forest. In town, walk the Turquoise Trail to discover more of Tucson’s unique culture and history.

We’re also seeing lots of fantastic travel nursing opportunities this summer in Phoenix, Goodyear, Mesa, Prescott, Chandler, and throughout The Grand Canyon State in general.

Omaha, Nebraska

If you’re seeking an idyllic Midwestern summer, then exploring travel nursing jobs in Omaha is the perfect choice for you. This under-the-radar, flyover country gem is known among travelers for its low cost of living, friendly folks, and quirky cultural offerings. Visit Omaha’s famous Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium — one of the world’s top zoos — to explore next-level exhibits like the Desert Dome, Lied Jungle, Kingdoms of the Night, African Grasslands, Asian Highlands, and so much more.

Head to the quaint cobblestone streets of the Old Market and you’ll find cafes and cool shops. We also recommend Lauritzen Gardens, Kenefick Park, Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge, Durham Museum, Benson, Blackstone, and Dundee. Don’t forget to hit up the many farmers markets and farm stands this heartland hotspot offers every summer!

There are also plenty more great travel healthcare opportunities throughout The Cornhusker State. We suggest Fremont, Lincoln, Grand Island, Kearney, and Scottsbluff, or even a smaller, rural community where your skill and talent is so needed.

Seattle, Washington

The Emerald City sparkle catches the eye of many a travel nurse, and that’s why travel nursing jobs in Seattle are a perennial favorite. But even though the city’s nickname comes from its year-round greenery, summer is an extra special time to take an assignment in Seattle. With sunny days and perfect temps typically in the high 70s/low 80s, it’s a wonderful time to explore the Puget Sound, Olympic National Park, Mount Rainier National Park, Alki Beach, and even the city’s walkable terrain. Have a picnic at iconic Gasworks Park, hop a ferry to Bainbridge Island, visit Space Needle Park, and stop off at Chihuly Garden and Glass.

No Seattle assignment is complete without a trip the famous Public Market where you’ll find fresh seafood, flowers, fruit, and vegetables, plus handcrafted jewelry and other wares. Fantastic arts and culture are available throughout the city at places like Seattle Asian Art Museum, Museum of Pop Culture, Seattle Art Museum, and more. End the summer at the popular Bumbershoot arts and music festival before extending your assignment or heading off to another location.

Tacoma, Lakewood, Wenatchee, Bellingham, Port Angeles, Silverdale, Burien, Tukwila, and Gig Harbor are a few other popular locations in Washington. With so much to see and do in The Evergreen State, travelers tend to fall in love with every location here!

Morgantown, West Virginia

This quaint college town is nestled in beautiful hills and steeped in the best parts of Appalachian culture. Travel nursing jobs in Morgantown offer great pay and benefits with a comfortable cost of living. The city sits along the Monongahela River and the Wharf District is a favorite among locals and travelers alike. Enjoy a riverside al fresco meal and explore the adjacent Warehouse District for a fun afternoon. Just steps from the Wharf District you can walk, run, or bike the beautiful Mon River Rail-Trail. The impressive system stretches 23.7 miles from its starting point at the Pennsylvania/West Virginia state line and intersects with other regional rail-trails.

Other outdoorsy adventures beckon from West Virginia Botanic Park, Coopers Rock State Forest, WVU Core Arboretum, and Cheat Lake Park. Museum lovers will enjoy a trip to the Art Museum of WVU, Watts Museum, and the Morgantown History Museum. The Morgantown Farmers Market is also a must!
