To Do and See in Louisiana

Louisiana is such a fun state to explore on your days — from big cities to small towns and everywhere in between.

New Orleans is the first thing to come to mind for most, and you’ll definitely want to spend some time here in the state’s crown jewel city. Stroll the bustling French Quarter and iconic Jackson Square, buzz through the Garden District on a historic trolley, jam out to street jazz or inside the well-worn Preservation Hall, enjoy beignets and coffee at the longtime mainstay Café Du Monde, and explore so much more. You’ll stumble onto all kinds of quirky treasures here! We also recommend making time while in town for Frenchman Street, Aquarium of the Americas, Lake Pontchartrain, Louis Armstrong Park, St. Louis Cemetery #1, and New Orleans Jazz National Historic Park. If you’re here during Mardi Gras or the Jazz & Heritage Festival, you’re in for an especially unforgettable experience.

Outside of New Orleans, you can explore everything from swamps to plantations. Quirky attractions like the castle-like original state capital, Magnolia Mound Plantation, the Sallier Oak tree, the Bonnie & Clyde Ambush Museum, Avery Island Tabasco Museum and Factory, Atchafalaya National Wildlife Refuge, and many more make for fun excursions. Also, many other Louisiana towns allow a window into Cajun and Creole cultures — part of what makes this state so unique!

Louisiana’s known as a major foodie hotspot and you’ll find incredible restaurants throughout the state — from hole-in-the-wall to high-end. With its many unique cultural influences, there’s a lot of really delicious and singular cuisine here. When you take an assignment here you can sample iconic Bayou State favorites like gumbo, jambalaya, po’boy and muffuletta sandwiches, crawfish etouffee, boudin, red beans & rice, chargrilled oysters, blackened fish, turtle soup, shrimp and grits, pralines, beignets, bananas foster, king cake, and so much more. Thirsty after all that? Wash it down with a Sazerac or a Hurricane, two home-grown cocktail inventions.
